After your purchase, you still have a job that you need to do.
It’s time to install the door handle and hardware.
Installing a handle seems relatively difficult.
But it’s easy as long as you’re guided throughout the process.
In this chapter, you’ll know a step-by-step guide.
It to help you to ensure whether or not the handles are at the best height, drilled with holes safely, chiseled out the recesses, and many more.
· Measure the Height for the Handle
Working out the height for your handle can be done in many ways.
You can measure the height of the hardware on the other doors in your residential or commercial property.
Alternatively, you can read the instructions in the kit.
You can also utilize the standard height for the door handle.
It is 1050 mm off your floor.
After identifying the height of the handle, measure and mark it on the side of your door.
Before the installation, place a wedge under the door to stop it from moving.
Just move the door wedge when you change the side of the doors.
· Mark Where the Hardware will Go
In this step, make sure to purchase the template.
The good thing is that product manufacturers include it in the package.
Use the template to mark the spot you’ll drill and line it up with the mark.
Then, don’t forget to mark on the template where you’ll drill holes in the front or side of the door.
Repeat the process on the other side of your door.
· Drill Holes in the Door Carefully
Utilize a drill bit to drill pilot holes in the door.
Before drilling, ensure that you’re square to the door.
Never drill right thru the furniture because the opposite side may splinter.
Sometimes, it may cause other issues that you can’t afford to have.
· Drill a Hole for your Spindle
In this step, you need to attach a spade bit to your cordless drill.
Make sure that the door is wedged to avoid unnecessary movements.
Then, drill the bit into the center hole.
Repeat the process on the other side.
The holes are where you will insert the spindle.
· Drill a Hole for your Barrel
Aside from drilling a hole for the spindle, you need to do the same process for your barrel.
Bear in mind that you have to be square to the side of the door to ensure that the hole is at the right angle.
· Mark the Faceplate
Insert the latch into the hole.
Use a pencil to mark the faceplate.
Then, remove the faceplate and latch from the door.
After that, cut the outline of the faceplate with the use of a sharp utility knife.
· Chisel Out a Hole for your Latch
For you to chiseled out a hole for the latch, utilize a durable hammer.
The cuts you made will serve as your guide as to where to stop chiseling.
Besides, chisel the hole so that the latch will fit best.
Then, insert the latch to see whether or not the faceplate sits flush to your door.
You can chisel some more if necessary.
· Attach your Latch
After inserting the latch into the side of your door, drill pilot holes to attach the latch.
Use a cordless tool to drill in the screws from the top to the bottom of the latch.
· Install your Striker Plate
To install the striker plate, close the door and mark the frame.
Hold the plate against the frame to guarantee whether it’s in the center of the latch or not.
Plus, mark the top or the bottom of the plate.
· Drill a Hole for the Plate
Utilizing the mark in the middle of the barrel, drill a pilot hole in the center of the door frame.
After that, attach the spade bit to the drill.
· Draw Around the Plate
Hold the plate up against the hole on the inside of the door frame and line it up with the top or bottom lines.
Utilize a pencil to draw around the plate.
Remove it from the door.
And use a knife to cut around the outline of the plate.
· Chisel the Recess for the Plate
After that, chisel out a recess for the plate by the use of a hammer.
The cuts are your guidelines on where to stop chiseling.
For you to make sure whether the striker plate sits flush, insert it into the recess.
· Attach the Hardware
To attach the striker plate, make holes for the screws using a drill bit.
Remember to use a cordless drill to secure the screws at the top and bottom of the hardware.
· Attach your Door Handles
Remove the faceplates from the handles.
Install grub screws into the holes.
Insert the bolt into the larger hole.
Put the faceplate on the hardware.
However, make sure that the hardware turns in a downward motion.
Insert the screw into the hole of the faceplate.
